Ruse, Ivanovo & Basarbovo Tour

Explore the beauty of Ruse, Ivanovo’s rock-hewn churches and Basarbovo Rock Monastery

We will introduce you the main highlights of Ruse starting from the Svoboda (Freedom) Square, spreading right in the heart of the city.

We will explore the  Old Town - stroll down the main streets of Ruse, created by eminent European architects (Profit Yielding Building, Opera House, Girdap, Library Building and others). You will also visit the Holy Trinity Cathedral -  Bulgarian Orthodox cathedral in the city of Ruse.

We will continue our exploration with The Rock-hewn Churches of Ivanovo - The rock churches are located in the Ruse Lom river valley, near the old village of Ivanovo. They have the status of an archaeological reserve and are listed by UNESCO. All of the churches are united by the monastery of “St. Archangel Michael”.
High in the cliffs, at 40-50 m above the ground, the natural niches and caves were enlarged by the monks and transformed into churches and cells.

Our next stop will be Basarbovo Rock Monastery, which was established during the period of the second Bulgarian kingdom, but its name was mentioned for the first time in a Turkish tax register in 1431. He was born in 1685 in the nearby village of Basarbovo, but he has spent his whole life in the monastery.   Even he was mentioned from the clergyman Saint Paisius of Hilendar in his Istoriya Slavyanobolgarskaya, one of the greatest pieces of Bulgarian literature.
